More Than 30 Years of Excellence
ARBA-American Reference Books Annual-has been a trusted resource for more than 30 years, a resource to which library and information science professionals have turned for the most authoritative and reliable reviews of reference materials. Dr. Bohdan S. Wynar compiled the first volume of ARBA in 1970 with the purpose of supplying librarians with a reliable tool to select the best reference materials for their collections and inform them of the most current resources available. Over the years, ARBA has evolved with the ever-changing library profession by providing reviews of electronic products and serving as a source of information on professional products for librarians and information specialists.
In response to the proliferation of books and electronic resources, an increasing number of interdisciplinary materials, and the need for immediate access to current information, the launching of ARBAonline was the next logical step in Libraries Unlimited's commitment to meeting the changing needs of today's library professionals. The first version of ARBAonline was produced with paratext and introduced at the 2002 American Libraries Association Annual Conference in Atlanta. On February 1, 2005, Libraries Unlimited and its sister company, Greenwood Electronic Media (GEM), launched a new version of ARBAonline. ARBAonline—the most comprehensive, authoritative database for quality reviews of print and electronic reference works—has been entirely redesigned to offer a new layout and enhanced searching and browsing. The intuitive interface is easier to use and read, and search functionality has been enhanced to offer easier, more powerful searches. Users will now be able to search by author, ISBN/ISSN, and content area. In addition, you will be able to browse by subject, or can zero in on new features by browsing the monthly updates. As a reference and research guide, and collection development tool for reference works, ARBA has long been known as an invaluable resource. Now, with the benefits of continuous coverage, frequent updates, and a new, user-friendly design, ARBAonline is unsurpassed.
ARBA has consistently received favorable reviews, most recently from both the Journal of Academic Librarianship and Reference and Research Book News, which stated that "The length, research, and content of ARBA's reviews are models of the ideal." Former Editor in Chief Bohdan Wynar was a recipient of ALA's Isadore Gilbert Mudge Citation for distinguished contributions to reference librarianship and publishing. ARBAonline was recently reviewed in the Charleston Advisor.
ARBA and ARBAonline are created and produced by Libraries Unlimited, global publisher
of quality resources for library professionals, media specialists, and educators.
